The biennial Rolex Fastnet Race is the highlight of the RORC (Royal Ocean Racing Club) race calendar. As notorious for the unpredictable tidal and weather conditions as for the beauty of the scenery of the 68-mile course, the Rolex Fastnet Raceis aknowledged as one of the world’s classic ocean races and attracts entrants from all over the world. The course takes the competitors from Cowes on the Isle of Wight, west along the south coast of England to Land’s End, across the often-tempestuous Celtic Sea to round the Fastnet Rock off the south western tip of Ireland, returning to finish off Plymouth.

Entries are capped at 300 and among those on the start line for the 2011 event were two Clipper 60s, from the original ocean racing fleet. Skill levels vary from seasoned ocean racers to novices keen to learn. Clipper’s experience of training crew for the Clipper Round the World Yacht Races ensures that our crews are safe and competitive from the outset.

The land and water-based sail training allows entrants to learn to work together as a team, to practice safety drills and race manoeuvres and get used to life on board.
